Vale Graham Middleton
It is with sadness that we announce that Graham Middleton passed away last week at the age of 80. Graham co-founded Synstrat in 1994, along with Bill Dewez, and was a larger than life character, as those who knew him would attest to.
His early career was spent in the Australian Army during which time he attained a degree in history and politics. After leaving the Army he was appointed Director, Human Resource Management of the Attorney General’s Department of Victoria and gained his MBA. In 1987 he rejoined the private sector working as a financial advisor and consultant. During this period he built up his knowledge of the dental and veterinary professions. In 1994, he co-founded Synstrat Group and began publishing newsletters and trade magazine articles on the business issues faced by dentists and veterinarians which gained him a profile and following in those professions.
During the following 26 years at Synstrat he specialised in the provision of strategic business and personal financial advice to dentists and veterinarians. He provided sage advice to dentists and veterinary surgeons buying or selling practices and oversaw the establishment of an extensive database of dental practice performance which is still current today. Graham particularly enjoyed and excelled at providing advice to dental clients in respect of strategic management issues either on request or through a unique biannual system of data led practice-focussed meetings.
Graham retired from Synstrat in 2020 but maintained his interest in those professions and continued to publish articles and newsletters until very recently. On behalf of everyone at Synstrat, we offer our sincere condolences to the Middleton family.
